The birth of Jesus was announced to nearby shepherds by angels in the middle of the night. Join us for our First Eucharist of Christmas.

All are welcome to our Sung Eucharist at 8 pm for Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. (There will also be the usual on-line service at 10.30 am.)

All are welcome to this annual event: this year the service in central Harrow is at St John’s, and will be on the theme “I know the plans I have for you”. The service has been devised by the Christian women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

“Maundy” comes from the Latin for “commandment” (like “mandate”). At the Last Supper (on the night before his crucifixion on Good Friday) Jesus told his followers to love each other, and seek to serve rather than to rule. He demonstrated this by washing his followers’ feet. We will not wash feet at this service, but we will do the other thing that Jesus did at the Last Supper by taking and sharing bread and wine as his body and blood as a reminder of him. Please join us for this solemn celebration.

The Choir of St John’s, with other local singers, will perform The Crucifixion, by John Stainer, on Good Friday, 15 April, at 7 pm.

Jesus died on Good Friday. On Saturday his body lay in a tomb. We do not know the exact time that he rose from the dead, but on Easter Eve we will gather in a darkened church at 8.30 pm to hear readings from the Old Testament about God’s covenant with the people of Israel and how they were liberated from slavery in Egypt. We then begin to celebrate our own liberation from sin and death by Jesus’s death and resurrection. We end our worship by renewing the promises we made when we were baptised, in preparation for Easter Communion tomorrow.
