General Information

Welcome to our Events and Concerts area. Here, you can find out about what’s happening at St. John’s.

If you are looking for information on our worship, please visit our Worship Services area, where you can find our service times, styles, and locations. Any variations from the regular pattern appear on this page.

Other activities include our Welcome Centre on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12 noon to 3 pm (run jointly with Our Lady & St Thomas RC Church), and on Fridays from 12 noon to 2 pm the church is open for private prayer.

Concerts

St John’s Church has held fortnightly lunch-time concerts since 1975. Concerts are held on alternate Thursdays throughout most of the year with breaks at Christmas, Easter and the summer. Please check this calendar for the next few dates (and programmes, when available).

Light refreshments are available from 11.45am and the concert begins at 12.30pm. There is usually an interval and the concert finishes at around 1.45pm.

Admission is free but there is a collection on the way out to cover expenses. Please come and join us!

(Please note that the Summer Concerts between Thursday 13 July and Thursday 14 September have been organised separately: (details here).)

Maundy Thursday Communion
Apr 6 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

“Maundy” comes from the Latin for “commandment” (like “mandate”). At the Last Supper (on the night before his crucifixion on Good Friday) Jesus told his followers to love each other, and seek to serve rather than to rule. He demonstrated this by washing his followers’ feet. We will not wash feet at this service, but we will do the other thing that Jesus did at the Last Supper by taking and sharing bread and wine as his body and blood as a reminder of him. Please join us for this solemn celebration.

Good Friday walk of witness
Apr 7 @ 10:30 am – 11:45 am

Central Harrow church members walk with a large wooden cross from Harrow Baptist Church in College Road through the streets to St John’s, where we finish with a short service.

Good Friday meditation
Apr 7 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join us to pray about the events of Good Friday and what it means for us today.

Stainer’s Crucifixion
Apr 7 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Stainer's Crucifixion

The Choir of St John’s, with other local singers, will perform The Crucifixion, by John Stainer, on Good Friday, 7 April, at 7 pm.
Leaving collection for the Choir Fund.

Soloists: Edward Hughes (tenor), Christopher Jacklin (bass)
Philip Rees (organ), John Barnard (conductor)
Singers welcome for the choir (rehearsal, 4.30 pm on the day): details here or from Simon Patrick, 020 8427 7993.
It would be very helpful if those planning to join us for the choir would let Simon know, with the part (soprano/alto/tenor/bass) that they will be singing. Last year we were particularly short of tenors and basses; if you know any who can sing in harmony and either know the piece or could learn it during the rehearsal, please encourage them to sign up!
Those attending in the congregation at 7 pm will be invited to join in the hymns but do not need to attend the rehearsal.
